Final Portrait: For my final task, I have produced a self portrait. For this piece, I have used coloured pencils. When creating my portrait, I have considered the techniques that I have learnt from previous lessons. The main techniques that I have used within my work are: light and shadow, pattern and colour.  I have applied the uses of light and shadow by using different hues of blue coloured pencils. Using this medium has allowed me to present the form of light and shadow into shapes. I believe that using this technique has been useful because it adds the uses of  realism and tone. I think that I could of improved my portrait by adding more uses of light and shadow on the face. The second technique that I have used is pattern. I have applied this technique to my work so I could continue adding the uses of mark making. Using pattern has made my portrait successful as I've been able to add the elements of texture. For example, I have drawn a number of short lines for the mirro...

Shadows: For this task, I have been focusing on shadows. Firstly, I have taken multiple pictures of a figure. After choosing one of these images, I have used tracing paper to simply the shadows into shapes. When doing this task, I have so far produced three outcomes.  My first piece was created by using pen. I think that using this medium was effective as I was able to apply different amounts of pressure to make different tones. Applying different amounts of tone has made my piece of work successful because I've been able to show a good balance between light and dark areas. Also, I believe that the light areas can be viewed as uses of negative spacing.  For my second piece, I chose to use one colour only. To create my drawing, I used a pink coloured pencil. I liked using this medium because I was able to make a mixture of delicate and heavy lines. The combination of these different pieces of linework can suggest different amounts of tone and lighting. Another reason why I like...

Forms and Foreshadowing: I have made a variety of sketches that present the uses of form and foreshortening. The first image shows drawings of the muscle structures within the arms and legs. To create these drawings, I have used pencil and a variety of coloured pencils. I have used these particular mediums because the pencil allows me to apply tone and the coloured pencils have been used to highlight different muscles. Afterwards, I focused on showing how I develop my drawings. I have done this by making skeleton structured drawings that show thin lines and where the joints would be. Near these structures, I have presented the final outcomes. I like these drawings as I have used simple lines. To improve upon these, I should of presented uses of foreshortening. I think the sketches are successful as I have shown how each drawing develops.  For my next pieces of work, I have made some gesture drawings. For the first stages of these drawings, I created skeleton structures. Then, I pro...

Life Drawing: Using Colour To create these pieces of work, I have been focusing on the uses of colour. For my first piece, I have  drawn the man standing up. The medium that I have used for this drawing is coloured pencil. I think that I've used this medium effectively as I have added lighting and shadows to the body. To apply the use of shadows, I used different amounts of pressure when using my coloured pencil. Also, when applying shadows to the drawing, I made the outline of different shapes. I did this because the shape and position of the shadow can change. To improve this piece, I should of added more detail to the face as the facial features appear quite faint.  For my second piece of work, I have drawn the man sitting. I believe that this drawing is more successful compared to the first one. This is because I have added more detail to this drawing. There is more uses of  shadows. This can be seen on the arms, chest and neck. However, I still needed to apply shadow...

For this lesson, I have continued to practise drawing a person from different viewpoints and positions. For the first sketch, the man was standing up. For this drawing, I used pencil. I think that using this medium worked well based on how I was able to add tone and detail onto the body. This drawing needs to  be improved based on how it is not complete.  For my second drawing, the man is still standing up but this time the angle has changed. I think this sketch is successful because I have added tone on top and underneath the arms. However, I believe that this drawing needs improving as the proportions are not correct. For example, the legs are too short.  When creating this piece of work, I decided to use a different medium. The medium I chose was fine liner. I think that using fine liner has given my work more variation and it evidences that I am experimenting with a different drawing materials. For this drawing, I have tried applying tone by using the technique of cros...

For this lesson, I have mainly learnt how to draw the human body from different viewpoints and angles. At the start of the lesson, I produced drawings of the woman standing up. I think this was helpful as it has allowed me to practise drawing the proportions of the body correctly. Also, I think that this was helpful as I was able to practise drawing from an angle in which the right leg is further away from the left leg. Meaning that the right leg would have to be drawn shorter.  To extend my practise in drawing from different angles, my second drawing presents a sketch of the woman sitting down.I found this piece quite challenging because of the posture. Furthermore, I also found it challenging because of the angle presented on the arms. To improve my sketch, I needed to use the technique of foreshortening to make certain parts of the arms appear further away or close up. For my next two pieces of work, I have made sketches that continue to show the woman sitting down. I believe th...

Life Drawing: Using Charcoal and Chalk For this lesson, I have continued to practise drawing the human body. From my previous life drawing lesson, I mainly focused on using charcoal when producing my drawings. But for this lesson, I have learnt how to use chalk effectively as well.  For my first sketch, I have used charcoal only. I like this piece of work because the proportions of the body seem correct. Also, I like how the charcoal appears faint. I believe that this makes my piece of work effective as it makes the line work appear delicate. I started to add shadows onto this piece and I do think that I could added more shadows in to add more tone.  For this second piece of work, I got shown how to use chalk effectively so that it can suggest lighting. I believe that this drawing is not the most successful piece. I believe this is because I applied too much chalk. Also, another reason why I think that my drawing was not successful is because the proportions are not correct. F...
